Denbighshire Young Sports Ambassadors of the Year awards for Ysgol Brynhyfryd students

A prestigious sporting awards ceremony was held and awards presented to fifteen gifted students of Ysgol Brynhyfryd in Ruthin.

The awards day was organised by Denbighshire Sport Gold and Platinum Ambassadors including 2 of Ysgol Brynhyfryd’s students, Carys Jones age 16 and Izzy Retout age 18. The guest speakers for the day were Nicola Anderson – Football coach for Manchester City football club, Tesni Evans – British Squash champion, Jenna Downing – World champion for inline skating and Tom Davies – British Judo champion.

The Ysgol Brynhyfryd winners of awards are as follows:

  • Year 10: Liam Rickard, Lois Hughes and Llio Thomas
  • Year 9: Harri Roberts and Gracie-Ann Parker
  • Year 8: Niamh Shiers, Erin Dunkerley, Jac Evans and Niovi Zachariades
  • Year 7: Bethan Morris, Katie Parton, Aled Lewis, Lola Jones, Siwan Williams and Rhun Hilditch-Roberts

Gracie-Ann Parker age 14 won a bronze award for her natural enthusiasm for school sports and has constantly shone. Gracie has shown a great willingness to support and assist Ffion White – AYP officer and teaching and coaching staff at Ysgol Brynhyfryd.

Mrs Ffion White of Ysgol Brynhyfryd said, “On numerous occasions, Gracie has demonstrated the ability to support and help others to play different sports by acting as a mini 5×60 coach on occasion.”

Llio Thomas age 15 won a silver award for her outstanding contribution to sport and for going out of her way to ensure that other young people have better opportunities in sports.

A spokesperson at Ysgol Brynhyfryd said, “Llio is very proactive both in and out of school and helps with many sports including hockey, netball and rugby.
